![]() The wacky and wonderful minions carry the film, but sadly, the plot seems haphazard. The film is a sort of origin story for Gru, despite having elusions to his childhood in the 1st and 3rd movies. With humble beginnings as a troublemaker in his mother's basement, the minions (voiced by Pierre Coffin) are determined to help him succeed in his mission. 'Minions: The Rise of Gru' follows 11 3/4 year old Gru (voiced by Steve Carrell) trying to make a name for himself and join the ranks of an elite villians group, the Vicious 6. Reviewed by balthesaur 6 / 10 Good for a few laughs, but don't expect the originals On the run, Gru will turn to an unlikely source for guidance, Wild Knuckles, and discover that even bad guys need a little help from their friends. It doesn't go well (to say the least), and only gets worse after Gru outsmarts them and suddenly finds himself the mortal enemy of the apex of evil. When the Vicious 6 oust their leader, legendary fighter Wild Knuckles (Alan Arkin), Gru interviews to become their newest member. Together, Kevin, Stuart, Bob, and Otto - a new Minion sporting braces and a desperate need to please - deploy their skills as they and Gru build their first lair, experiment with their first weapons, and pull off their first missions. Luckily, he gets some mayhem-making back-up from his loyal followers, the Minions. A fanboy of a supervillain supergroup known as the Vicious 6, Gru hatches a plan to become evil enough to join them. I would definitely recommend it even more so if yu haven't seen the movie and your kids have.In the heart of the 1970s, amidst a flurry of feathered hair and flared jeans, Gru (Steve Carell) is growing up in the suburbs. Overall I think this is great value for money and a brilliant book to encourage your young readers to read as it is such a great story that kids in particular really seem to enjoy. Miss Four really enjoys the pictures and uses these to narrate the story to me. Miss seven enjoys reading it to me and then telling me bits that happened in the movie. What I have liked most about this book is because the kids have watched this movie they love telling me all about the movie. Just to help me visually this contains eight beautiful glossy pages of scenes from the movie. This book was always going to be a hit but for me having not seen the movie yet at least I could read this and have that ever important question "how did the minions come to be" answered! Miss Four sometimes behaves like she is one. ![]() Dad has had the honors of taking the little misses along to the movies over the school holidays and again on a horrid rainy day. Its all about minions in our house at the moment. This Review: 10/10 Price: Value for Money: ReReadability: Personal Choice: This is a book I would purchase again from Scholastic for Birthday or Christmas presents. My 4 year old loved trying to sneak off with this book and look at the pictures in the middle, they are bright and shiny and really appealing to look at. There were some that he would ask for help on, however I felt that this gave him a bit of a challenge. He took him a week and a half to get through reading it, and most of the words are manageable for a 7 year old. This book really wasn't put down until it was read, it was so nice to hear him asking if he could go to bed and read, rather than play on his device. The chapters are small, which makes the child feel successful in their reading as my son would exclaim each night that he had read 4 or so whole chapters! ![]() What I found really good in this book was the size of the words, they are large enough not to be intimidating to read by a young child. When my 7 year old received this he was ecstatic, he even took it out to dinner that night and couldn't stop thanking me! Their favourite to date is the 'Minion' film, which centres around the little creatures themselves. My children have been big followers of these little yellow creatures, and we have been to movies at the cinema to see them on the big screen.
